OPEN FARM - Premium Nutrition, Ethically Sourced
At Dolittle’s, we believe pets are family. We want pet food to be healthy, natural, and nutritious. Our pets want the food to be delicious, period. Thankfully Open Farm makes the whole family happy. As parents, we feel good about the quality and ingredients of the food while Greta licks her lips and wags her little butt when dinner arrives. Open Farm has the whole farm to bowl approach nailed down. We love that they have a whole pantry full of variety to offer. One night might be kibble, another night stew. On Friday night we might splurge on freeze dried pork served over lamb kibble with a beef au jus, er…broth.

What’s to love about Open Farm? It all starts on the farm:

At the heart of Open Farm’s brand is the belief that animals should be treated with kindness and respect. This value carries over to their livestock, which is pasture raised on Certified Humane farms, with plenty of space to roam, no cages or crates. Their beef, chicken, pork are raised antibiotic free and fed natural, vegetarian diets. Even the fish Open Farm uses are caught using sustainable practices, helping to protect our oceans from the growing problem of overfishing. For example, the whitefish in their food is always farmed in season. One batch may have cod, another pollock. You can read on the back of the bag which fish you are serving.

Open Farm’s commitment to sustainability extends to the very bags their food comes in. Did you know that over 95% of the pet food bags you see at stores aren’t considered recyclable? Open Farm saw this issue and decided to partner with Terracycle, a recycling industry leader, to collect their used pet food bags and recycle and repurpose them into new materials and products. To date, they’ve collected and recycled over 100,000 bags!

What is the result of all of this commitment and care? Wholesome, trustworthy ingredients that provide your pet with the nutrients they need. Open Farm knows that our dogs and cats flourish on protein rich diets. Meat is always the first ingredient on their bags. The supporting ingredients are easily identifiable fruits and vegetables. And those superfoods we all say we’re going to eat more of but never do? (We’re looking at you, kale.) Open Farm includes them in their food, so your pet’s diet is chock-full of the vitamins and minerals that let them thrive.

Open Farm foods come in a variety of food options: Dry kibble, boxed stews, freeze dried nuggets, frozen gently cooked, broth, and after dinner treats! We especially love their gently cooked frozen options - they’re a feast for even the pickiest pup and promote healthy digestion!

Open Farm is devoted to the quality of their food and they’re not afraid to share that info with you. In fact, you can use the Open Farm website to trace the source of every ingredient from your bag. Try doing that for your box of breakfast cereal.

We love that Open Farm has so many practices that are in touch with the world today, with a heart for transparency, humane treatment, and sustainability. They’re aware of the impact pet food has on our planet, and they’re taking measures to be responsible. It’s good food that does good for the planet.
