September Spotlight: Cassie
pint sized goddess
Each month, we're highlighting one of our lovable pet employees for you to get to know. We’ll get to see the world through their perspective by discussing things like how they came to live with their humans. They'll give us the inside scoop on what pet life is really all about.
For September, we have Hadley and her canine companion, Cassieopeia, aka Cassie, who absolutely lives up to her Greek namesake.
Dolittle’s: Thank you so much for gracing us with your presence and beauty. Why don’t you introduce yourself to our readers?
Cassie: My name is Cassie, short for Cassiopeia. My mom named me that because I was so beautiful at a young age. I reminded her of the story of Cassiopeia who gets in trouble for boasting about her beauty. I’m not sure I get the connection.
D: She is right, you are adorable. How did you and your mom meet?
C: My mom, Hadley, was with her mom at a grocery store when she saw me and some of my litter mates being sold from the back of a truck. It was a humble start for a goddess such as myself. Anyways, Hadley fell instantly in love (honestly who wouldn’t?) and the rest is history.
D: That is quite the origin story. How long have the two of you been together?
C: I’ve been with my mom for 9 years but I still feel like a puppy. Maybe that’s because no matter how old I get, she refuses to stop calling me a puppy, or a baby, or whatever cutesy-wootsy word she can think of. She is soooo obsessed with me! But, I get it. Which is why I allow her to live with me and take me on walks.
D: She sounds very lucky to have you. What are some of your favorite things to do around town?
C: My favorite thing to do is go on long walks with my mom. She is constantly giggling behind me for no apparent reason, humans are so strange. Just this morning I saw a lonely piece of lettuce sitting in the middle of the road while we were walking. Naturally, I peed on it so everyone would know that this was my lettuce and I might come back for it later. But, just as I was leaving my message something funny must have happened because she started to laugh. I looked around for what it was but I must have missed it –sad.
D: It certainly sounds like you and your mom have some adventurous moments. What else do you love about her?
C: My mom is really quite peculiar but I absolutely love it when she scratches the spot between my eyes or sings ‘You Are My Sunshine’ when I’m feeling anxious. She is a HORRIBLE singer but it’s cute to see her try. I hate it when she laughs too loud and if there is any sign of tears, I’m out of there faster than you can say ‘emotional breakdown.’
D: That’s understandable. Humans can get quite messy when it comes to emotions. And it sounds like your mom takes really great care of you. How do you feel about her working at Dolittle’s?
C: Dolittle’s is amazing, although it seems that most of the time when I go there I get a bath. Despite that trauma, I always love going! But I don’t understand why mom gets to spend so much time there without me when the store was so clearly made for me!
D: Indeed. Thank you so much for taking the time to speak with us today, Cassie. It was a genuine pleasure!
C: I know.
