At Dolittle’s we are constantly learning about pet food and the best way to feed our pets. We have a wealth of knowledgeable resources that offer us factual information on pet nutrition. Being the pet food nerds that we are we like to chat it up with the manufacturers and nutritionists behind our favorite brands. Scott Freeman of Nature’s Logic is that guy.

When we first met Scott he was carrying around a 3” binder with his dog’s nutritional report saying: “Look at this report, all the levels are normal.” This was important because at the time Scott was trying to pull off something no other food company had before. Nature’s Logic was the first dry food to be made from all natural ingredients. He was adamant about not introducing synthetics into the ingredient list. The report on his dog indicated that the food was performing as planned. It’s safe to say Logic has been performing as planned since 2006. It remains the only non-synthetic food on the market.

Add Water, Feed Less
Back in the day we would call Scott and geek out for hours over pet food. While the call might start with a random concern or question, the answer would inevitably lead to: add water and feed less. Scott would explain that dry food is a concentrate and as such it needs to be rehydrated - add water. He would also explain that as a concentrate kibble can be calorically dense so, scooping up a bowlful can lead to digestive trouble - feed less. To this day Dolittle's shares this mantra with as many customers as possible.

Logic has never been involved in a pet food recall. Part of the reason is because none of the ingredients are synthetic. Therefore the risk of carrying an elevated level of a particular vitamin or an ingredient like melamine is close to non-existent. Likewise, Logic chose to use millet as the binder in their kibble. This is important because millet is classified as a grain and is low on the glycemic index. Being a grain inclusive diet with a low glycemic index makes Logic a good choice when trying to reduce the risks of DCM. Simply put, Logic is a smart all-natural food.

Dolittle’s has always loved the mix and match ability of Logic. Most of the formulas are nearly identical. The only significant difference is the first ingredient which is usually the meat. This makes rotation a breeze. Plus their can line is a perfect compliment to the dry food so you can add-in as you please.

Recently Nature’s Logic has been adding more products to their line. We are thrilled to see the additions which include an upgrade to the original food. You can now find Distinction, a meat-first offering, and Distinction Grain-Free. Both of these additions avoid legumes and potatoes making them clean & lean choices for your dog. Other additions to the line include meaty treats as well as delicious biscuits.

The next chapter for Nature’s Logic includes becoming a pet industry leader in sustainability. Their new treat bags are made with 45% post-consumer recycled material. Plus, they use Certified Neutral Plastic packaging for their Distinction products. They are making contributions to organizations focused on environmental efforts. Additionally, they are partnering with companies that are building a better future for packaging, farming, and more. Their actions are drawing recognition in the pet industry. In 2020 Nature’s Logic was named one of the pet industry’s most sustainable brands by the Pet Sustainability Coalition, based on UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Dolittle’s is proud to offer Logic to the Charleston community. There is a lot to love about Logic but best of all is that pets love it. In fact, we regularly feed it to our own pets (but always a little less and with water).
